How Do You French Press?

Here are step-by-step directions for brewing French press coffee:

1. Gather your equipment:

- French press

- Coarsely ground Gregular Guys coffee

- Hot water (just below boiling point)

- Timer

- Spoon or stirring device

- Mug or carafe

2. Preheat the French press:

- Pour some hot water into the French press to preheat it.

- Let it sit for a minute or two, then discard the water.

3. Add coffee grounds:

- Measure and add coarsely ground coffee to the preheated French press.

- As a general guideline, use a ratio of 1:15 or 1:17 coffee-to-water, depending on your taste preference.

4. Pour hot water:

- Start the timer and pour hot water into the French press, covering the coffee grounds.

- Use a circular motion to ensure even saturation.

- Allow the coffee to bloom for about 30 seconds. This is when gases escape, creating a "bloom" on the surface.

5. Stir the grounds:

- Use a spoon or stirring device to gently stir the coffee grounds, ensuring they are fully immersed in the water.

- This helps with even extraction and enhances the flavor.

6. Steep the coffee:

- Place the plunger with the mesh filter on top of the French press, but do not press it down yet.

- Let the coffee steep for about 3-4 minutes, adjusting the steeping time based on your preference for strength.

7. Press the plunger:

- After the desired steeping time, slowly and steadily press the plunger down.

- Apply even pressure to separate the brewed coffee from the grounds.

8. Serve and enjoy:

- Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your mug or carafe.

- Serve immediately to enjoy the flavors at their best.

- If you're not consuming all the coffee right away, transfer the remaining coffee to a thermal carafe to keep it warm.

9. Cleanup:

- After enjoying your coffee, dispose of the coffee grounds and rinse the French press thoroughly.

- Take apart the plunger and wash all the components with warm, soapy water.

By following these steps, you can brew a delicious cup of French press coffee. Remember, you can adjust the grind size, coffee-to-water ratio, and steeping time to suit your taste preferences and desired strength. Enjoy your freshly brewed French press coffee!
