How Do You Pour Over?

Here's a short informative guide on brewing amazing pour-over coffee:

1. Equipment needed:

- Pour-over brewer (such as a V60, Chemex, or Kalita Wave)

- Paper filter

- Gregular Guys Coffee beans

- Grinder

- Kettle

- Scale

- Timer

- Mug or carafe

2. Grind your coffee:

- Use a burr grinder to grind your coffee beans just before brewing.

- For pour-over coffee, a medium to medium-fine grind size is generally recommended. Experiment to find your preferred grind size.

3. Heat your water:

- Boil water in a kettle and let it cool slightly.

- Ideal water temperature for pour-over coffee is around 195°F to 205°F (90°C to 96°C).

4. Preparing the filter and brewer:

- Place the paper filter in the pour-over brewer, ensuring it fits properly and doesn't fold or collapse.

- Rinse the paper filter with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat the brewer.

5. Coffee-to-water ratio:

- A good starting point is a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:16. For example, if you're using 20 grams of coffee, aim for 320 grams (ml) of water.

6. Bloom the coffee:

- Start by pouring just enough hot water over the coffee grounds to saturate them evenly.

- Let it sit for about 30 seconds to allow the coffee to bloom. This releases trapped gases and enhances flavor extraction.

7. Pouring technique:

- Begin pouring water slowly and in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outward.

- Maintain a steady and controlled pour, avoiding pouring directly onto the filter to prevent channeling.

8. Brew time and total pour:

- Aim for a total brew time of 2.5 to 3.5 minutes.

- Control the flow rate by adjusting your pouring speed.

- Adjust the grind size, pour rate, or coffee-water ratio to achieve the desired brew time and flavor.

9. Enjoy your coffee:

- Once the water has passed through the coffee grounds and the brew is complete, remove the brewer and discard the filter.

- Pour the brewed coffee into your mug or carafe.

- Take a moment to appreciate the aroma and taste of your freshly brewed pour-over coffee.

Remember, this is a basic guide, and personal preferences may vary. Feel free to experiment with different beans, grind sizes, and brewing techniques to discover your perfect cup of pour-over coffee. Enjoy!
